6 Things That Are Awesome About Being a Solopreneur
Running a business on your own may be a dream come true, but the reality is that it can be really difficult as well. Without a team or business partners working with or for you, the sheer volume of tasks to do and decisions to make can overwhelm you. You also won’t have the luxury of getting a different perspective or insight from your own.
Despite these challenges, there are benefits when it comes to being a solopreneur. Here are some advantages in running a one-man business operation:
Zero office politics.
Since you are not working with anyone, there’s basically no office politics involved. There will be no gossip, disputes, arguments, etc. that will cause you stress. All the time you have can be devoted to work or to spending time with family and friends.
You get to decide everything.
Do you prefer working late in the evening or early in the morning? Are you comfortable working in an office or at a coffee shop? No matter what the dilemma is, you have the final say. You get to decide on the big stuff like the look of your website and even the small things like the font on your business cards. If a business strategy doesn’t work, you can also quickly decide to change it.
You discover the benefits of automation and outsourcing.
To ensure the success of your business, there are tons of things that you have to do such as improving your website ranking in Google, social media management, building your email list and then sending email campaigns or newsletters, scheduling appointments with potential clients, etc. The list is endless.
Fortunately, some of these tasks can be automated or outsourced. For organizing your files and scheduling meetings or appointments for example, you can always hire a virtual assistant or two to do these tasks for you. You won’t even need to provide office space and equipment for them since they work remotely.
The success of your business depends on you.
This comes with the territory. Since no one else is responsible when it comes to your business, its success also heavily relies on you.
You can pivot whenever you want.
Pivot is a startup term where your business can pivot to Plan B if the current business model is not working. You can start as an online seller of products for example, but eventually shift to providing services if you discover that it can bring growth to your company. As a solopreneur, you don’t answer to business partners, investors, stakeholders, employees, or board members, making it easier for you to pivot if an opportunity presents itself.
You can be a workaholic by choice.
If choose to work for more than 8 hours a day, no one will stop you. You can work relentlessly day in, day out since there’s no boss or employees to bother you. Just make sure you won’t overdo it because it might burn you out.
