5 Simple Exercises to Keep A Freelancer in Shape

When you started out as a home based virtual assistant, you probably thought that getting in shape will be easier to achieve now that you have so much more personal time on your hands. Unfortunately, it is not always the case.

Between your workload as a virtual office assistant, your household chores and other responsibilities, it can be difficult to find the time or the motivation to exercise. On top of that, being so comfortable at home can make you want to spend your time watching TV, eating, or surfing the net during your free time.

Although you don’t necessarily have to be super fit and buff when providing virtual assistant services, it’s still important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to stay in shape to continue living a fruitful, more enjoyable life. Even if you don’t want to or can’t get a gym membership or take up sports, you can still find some ways to shape up.

Here are 5 simple exercises to keep a freelancer in shape.

  • Take up walking.

Walking is one of the simplest ways to squeeze a workout in your day. In fact, you don’t even have to clear up a slot in your schedule for it. You can simply walk to your destination instead of driving there if it’s nearby. You can also use your short breaks from work to take a walk around your neighborhood. Aside from getting some cardio, walking a couple of blocks will also allow you to reset your brain and get your creative juices flowing because you’re exposed to a change in scenery.

  • Exercise with some home gym equipment.

Buy some simple equipment like a set of weights or an exercise ball and use them extensively. There are plenty of videos on the internet that teach you weightlifting routines and other exercises that make use of these equipment so take advantage of them. Most of them are free anyway.

Basic yoga moves like the plank and the cobra pose are very simple exercises that can work wonders for your back and core. Doing these daily will not take up more than 10 minutes of your time, so don’t make an excuse not to do them.

  • Stretch!

Simple stretches that you can even do while in your chair may not seem like much, but they are actually really beneficial for your joints and muscles. After working for several hours hunched over your desk, doing a few stretches can help improve your blood circulation and reduce muscle fatigue.

  • Do burpees, squats, and lunges.

Burpees, squats, and lunges are perfect for anyone who wants a full body workout without investing in some equipment. You can do them anywhere, and they only take a few minutes. Proper posture is key to these exercises so make sure to watch videos to ensure that you’re executing them right.

The most important thing when it comes to getting and staying in shape is to motivate yourself. Don’t make excuses just because you’re not feeling like working out on a particular day. Remember, there will always be time for a workout if you really want to do it.
